In the middle-ages it was widely believed that the force of a violent sneeze could send your soul flying from your body where it could be consumed by demons of the underworld or the hounds of hell. With this in mind you may suspect that these dogs are lying in wait to devour your soul should it escape from your body.

This is of course ridiculous. What would a dog want with your soul? They just think you look funny when you sneeze.
